Health Professions Peer Advising
The College of Science and Math Advising Center utilizes upper division pre-health student advisors to assist students with preparation fo professional level programs in the health sciences. Health Professions Peer Advising is an important first step in preparing for health professions career. It is recommended that students meet with a Health Professions Peer Advisor regularly in their first two years of college education to ensure they are developing a competitive application for professional schools. This effort shows a serious interest in pursuing a health professions career, and makes the time spent with a staff advisor in the third and fourth year of college more worthwhile.
Health Profession Peer Advisors are knowledgeable in providing information on:
- Course prerequisites and course sequencing
- General timeline for professional school preparation
- Leadership,community service and health care experiences
- Summer research and clinical internships
The Health Professions Peer Advising occurs at the window of Building 53 room 219.
You are welcome to walk up to the window anytime to ask general questions regarding health professions programs and prerequisites.

Staff Advisors
Staff advisors provide additional, more detailed application advising for all current upper division Cal Poly students and alumni who are approaching their application year. Advising offered through this office includes: development of the application to professional school, selection of appropriate schools, assistance with personal statements, letters of reference selection, and the interview process.
