Health Professions Advising
Health Professions Advising is available for all Cal Poly students interested in health professions, regardless of their major. It is staffed by three student advisors and two full-time staff advisors who are available on a walk-in and appointment basis to help students with their health professions career pursuits.
Health Professions Peer Advising
The College of Science and Math Advising Center utilizes upper division pre-health student advisors to assist students with preparation for professional level programs in the health sciences. Health Professions Peer Advising is an important first step in preparing for health professions career. It is recommended that students meet with a Health Professions Peer Advisor regularly in their first two years of college education to ensure they are developing a competitive application for professional schools. This effort shows a serious interest in pursuing a health professions career, and makes the time spent with a staff advisor in the third and fourth year of college more worthwhile.
Pre-health professions students can:
- Receive help with creating a general timeline for professional school preparation
- Receive assistance with selecting the appropriate prerequisite coursework for professional school
- Receive guidance on obtaining applied experiences (such as community service, leadership and health-care experiences)
- Receive information on summer research and clinical internship opportunities
